Read below for a description of Christmas Eve in Kirkwall exactly 100 years ago taken from the Orkney Herald dated 1st January 1919:







The Orkney Library and Archive shall be closed to the public

from 5pm on Saturday 22nd of December until

9.15am on Saturday the 5th of January.

  1. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas celebration. We've been fighting a variety of Creeping Crud, down here on the Gulf Coast of Texas, so I've been unable to read daily. But I've read all the posts for your Advent calendar now. Thank you again for doing that--it was an interesting and fitting way to honor those who served in WWI.
