Photo Archive Project: We have a large collection
of prints to view here in the Archive, last count, about 70,000, all arranged by
different subjects. We have an ongoing project to scan them all and add them to
our online catalogue. So far we’ve added about 12,000 descriptions and about
2,000 images. We’ve concentrated on adding images that are most asked for
first, such as Orkney during both World Wars, the construction of the Churchill
Barriers, the Italian POWs and the salvage of the German Naval Fleet. We have just
moved on to adding people’s images. If you would like to have a look, open our
online catalogue https://oice-apw.adlibhosting.com/AIS/search/simple,
go to advanced search and choose to Search in “Archive Catalogue”. In the
reference box type L, then click the box next to “Only records with images” ,
then click on Search below. This will bring up all the photographic images we
currently have online. If you want to search more specifically, you can add
words to the box next to “Word(s) from the title/Content”, such as "Italian" or "Barriers" or "Salvage".
