Advent Quiz Number 4.

It is the last Archive Christmas Quiz dear readers and it is a fairly easy one.

We received some archives yesterday in a recycled box. What was this box originally?

There is no prize as we close at 3pm today and are already too drunk to find the box of Orkney Library & Archive merchandise. Play for our eternal esteem only.

The Orkney Library & Archive shall not open again until Saturday the 6th of January at 9.15am.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Joyful and Peaceful New Year.

  2. It looks like a laundry box. I knew someone who bought a chest of drawers from the sale following the death of Miss Robertson of Crantit in the 1970s. She was a daughter of Duncan J Robertson, solicitor, poet and naturalist. One of the drawers in the chest was stuck. When the buyer freed it, he found inside D. J. Robertson's solid silver card case, an immaculate set of Thorburn's British Birds in several volumes with hand-tinted steel engravings, and a laundry box. This last contained letters sent to Robertson from home when he was a student in Edinburgh. I'm sure they would be of interest to the Archive, but I don't know who has them now.
